About NYSHA

Founded in 1900, New York State Humane Association’s (NYSHA) charter firmly rests on an ethic of compassion for all sentient beings. We believe that a more enlightened relationship with animals lies with humane education.

To prevent animal suffering and to encourage compassion, NYSHA’s programs focus on preventing and ending animal cruelty, via a manual, “Investigating Animal Cruelty in NYS,” other educational resources, and working with and producing workshops for law enforcement and SPCAs. We also provide referral and informational services to citizens and humane agencies throughout NYS to combat abuse.

We support and promote legislation that either strengthens existing animal protection statutes or create new critical safeguards.

Incorporated in 1925, NYSHA is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization and is supported solely through donations and grants. We are not funded by any government agency.       Read more about NYSHA.

Helping Ukraine's Animals
As animal lovers, we are all concerned about what is happening to the animals in Ukraine. We have been asked by several supporters to suggest ways to help the animals there. We are providing a link to some information about organizations that we believe are able to help and that have an easy donation process.
Helping Turkey's/ Syria's Animals
On February 6, a mammoth earthquake took place in Turkey and Syria, causing massive damage. As with human rescues, volunteers brave the weather and the possibility of further structure collapse to pull starving, dehydrated animals buried in the rubble. Those lucky enough to be alive will need food, water, shelter, and veterinary care as well for broken bones, failing organs, exposure, and starvation. If you would like to help with efforts to rescue these animals, here are the names and contact information for several groups involved.
